Achieving HITECH Meaningful Use and Certification for Data Management Professionals

How Meaningful Use Impacts Healthcare Data Management Professionals

What Healthcare Data Architects, Developers, and DBA’s need to know about achieving HITECH Meaningful Use and Certification

The HITECH Act, part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act Stimulus Bill passed in 2009, establishes 25 major “Meaningful Use” (MU) requirements that all electronic medical records systems must implement in order to have their users qualify for billions in government incentive money. These MU requirements will change existing and future implementations, affecting nearly all healthcare architects, developers and DBAs developing these information systems.
Join healthcare IT expert, Shahid Shah, for an insightful webinar on the impacts of meaningful use, certification of electronic health record systems, and what this means to data management professionals.
Date: Wednesday, July 14th, 2010
Time: 11:00 AM Pacific / 2:00 PM Eastern

In this one hour webinar, you’ll learn:

  • What ARRA, HITECH, Meaningful Use (MU), and Certification mean
  • How technical personnel such as data architects, DBAs and developers will be affected by MU
  • The best ways to determine the MU gaps that might be found in existing systems
  • Additional expertise technical personnel may need to meet MU.
  • How quickly systems will need to be modified and deployed to meet MU rules

Registered webinar attendees will also receive a complimentary copy of Shahid Shah’s white paper, “How Meaningful Use Impacts Healthcare Data Management Professionals”.

What’s New in Change Manager 5.1

Header Webinar Event

TECHNICAL WEBINAR

How do you track and report on changes throughout your database environment? Roll out application updates? Comply with database audit and reporting requirements or protect data privacy? Or the real kicker… database performance tanked and it’s because someone tweaked the schema in Production and now YOU have to search through schema archives to find the problem and roll it back… ASAP.

The Smart Way To Manage Database Changes
Please join us for a live webinar event, What’s New in Change Manager 5.1, and find out how to automatically capture schema “snapshots” to quickly identify changes and correct problems in less time; compare live databases or archives to track and report on change; generate change scripts; compare, validate and synchronize schema and data within or across database platforms; and monitor database settings to ensure compliance with regulations and company policies.

And NEW in Change Manager® 5.1, you can:

  • Protect Data Privacy - Data masking  features shuffle or randomize columns to de-identify data and then quickly migrate the masked data from Production into Test, QA or Dev environments
  • Migrate schemas and manage change across DBMS environments - cross-DBMS schema compare and synch between Oracle <> SQL Server and Sybase ASE <> SQL Server
  • Go Global – with full Unicode character support

Embarcadero Change Manager is the only change management tool that covers data, schema, and configuration management, and supports four major DBMS platforms (IBM® DB2® for LUW, Microsoft® SQL Server, Oracle®, and Sybase®) – all from a single interface.

Customer Data Integration With Jason Tiret

Why is Customer Data Integration the hottest area of Master Data Management? Because the customer comes in so many forms today – retail stores, online shopping, bonus clubs, coupons... the list goes on.  What good is collecting all of the customer data if we cannot identify who that person really is? How old is the customer?  What trends can we identify by learning about the customer’s habits?   Remember when you used to get cards in the mail that would request info about your lifestyle?

Nowadays, companies automatically pull this information from various sources... at which point, CDI comes in handy!  Tune into this episode of DM Radio to hear special guest host Robert Abate, a seasoned CDI consultant, along with Jason Tiret of Emarcadero, Martin Moseley of Initiate Systems and Aaron Zornes of the MDM Institute. Attendees will learn: Best practices for identity resolution; The value of various architectural approaches; How to incorporate third-party data; Strategies for avoiding re-duplication; What you can accomplish without new software.

Data Masking | Change Manager 5.1

New in Embarcadero Change Manager 5.1: data masking features to help protect data privacy.  Simply run a data compare and synchronization job to shuffle or randomize sensitive data. This will protect the identity of the source when moving data from production into lower security databases like test or development environments:

Change Manager is a powerful set of tools to help you simplify and automate the database change management lifecycle.  Change Manager is a product of Embarcadero Technologies, a database tools and developer software company.

  • Simplify and automate database change management
  • Streamline development cycles
  • Ensure availability, performance and compliance

Change Manager's schema compare and alter, data compare and synchronization, and configuration auditing capabilities report on database changes, roll out new releases, and pinpoint database performance problems that result from both planned and unplanned changes.

By comparing a live database to a schema, or configuration "snapshot", administrators can quickly identify changes and correct problems in less time. By monitoring configuration settings, DBAs can ensure compliance with regulatory policies and performance standards, and maintain overall database performance and availability. Change Manager supports IBM® DB2® for LUW, Microsoft® SQL Server, Oracle®, and Sybase®.

Change Manager offers:

  • Capture of schema archives, which provide a record of database schema at a point in time
  • Live-to-live, live-to-archive, and archive-to-archive compare jobs
  • One-to-many compare
  • Advanced alter generation
  • Manage user, server and system objects
  • Cross-DBMS data compare and automated object mapping
  • Archive and compare database configuration settings
  • Source Code Control Integration
  • Command Line API and notification

SQL Profiling and Tuning | Stress Testing with DB Optimizer

A great note from our friend Greg Nerpouni at Embarcadero Technologies:

Two short months after the release of one of Embarcadero’s award winning SQL profiling and tuning IDE database tools, DB Optimizer 1.5, I am proud to announce that DB Optimizer 1.5.1 is out and available to the public. It may strike you that because the version number is only slightly revised that this is simply a maintenance release, but while the development team has done a tremendous job in fixing some key issues they have also managed to include two new and powerful features, including a brand new Load Editor and the ability to launch a tuning job remotely via the command line API.  Here I explain a bit about both of these new features:

I am excited about these new features. With the Load Editor, you can stress test SQL code, getting immediate feedback on performance via continuous profiling while you test and fine tune your SQL leveraging the DB Optimizer SQL Tuner... a unique and powerful feature that should empower developers and DBAs to ensure poor-performing code never reaches production.

Tune into DM Radio Thursday, June 4th to hear Embarcadero’s Jason Tiret wax on the world of customer data integration.

Managing Data Strategically

Data yields information when its definition is understood or readily available and it is presented in a meaningful context. Yet even the information that may be gleaned from data is incomplete because data is created to drive applications, not to inform users. Metadata is the data that holds application data definitions as well as their operational and business context, and so plays a critical role in data and application design and development, as well as in providing an intelligent operational environment that's driven by business meaning.

Only by presenting data together with its definitions in a meaningful context together with the available online content, and supporting any random combination of queries and actions, can organizations fully harness and
exploit their data assets. These data semantics, effectively applied, enable smarter query and reporting functionality across the entire IT environment, and they enable the delivery of information, derived from structured data, that is meaningful and actionable for the user.

With a unified, global approach to enterprise data, organizations can ensure accuracy, manage regulatory compliance, and ensure that the data infrastructure constantly maps to business needs.
